I am delighted to draw your attention to a Franco-German workshop to be held on 23-24 May at the Marc Bloch Centre in Berlin. "Paths of Solidarity - The Conceptual Roots of the Modern Welfare State in France and Germany" will be discussed in German and French (with simultaneous interpretation).

The workshop will compare the concepts of the welfare state in France and Germany in terms of the sociology of law. It goes back to the development of this thinking in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and asks how great the degree of "path dependency" is in both countries. To what extent do these concepts and their differences still play a role today?
